Bude Haven Parish Church is in danger of closing…

…… JUST STAYING OPEN COSTS £12,000 ANNUALLY

……and then there’s the estimated £50,000 – £100,000 needed to stop water ingress and to build modern facilities

Friends of Bude Haven Parish Church (FoBPC) was formed in 2019 to ensure that the church building stays open for community use now and for future generations to enjoy.  In recent years the congregation has declined in number and the church’s upkeep, maintenance and the need to meet modern health and safety standards have become an increasing burden.  As with many old buildings, unexpected problems crop up with increasing frequency.

FoBPC is not concerned with faith but with fabric.  We aim to safeguard a historic monument, one of the oldest and best buildings in Bude Haven.  Our purpose is to help with the structural upkeep of the church and also to make it suitable for use by the community as a whole.  Our major works to date include funding towards the new disabled access (lighting, a handrail and a special door mechanism) and the fitting of CCTV.

Our current Appeal!

St Michael’s Parochial Church Council has recently decided to focus on the provision of regular and disabled toilets at the back of the church as its next major project, in order to make the building more suitable for community use.  Over the next few years, FoBPC will support the PCC in raising half the estimated £50,000 required, which will make it easier to obtain matching grants.

In the longer term, repairs are needed to the walls of the south transept, east gables and north wall of the church.  Water has been seeping into the building for some time.  Unfortunately, it isn’t just a case of repointing the stonework.  Some of the damage has been caused by poor repairs carried out in the 1960s, so extra care has to be taken to get it right this time.
